April for Palestine

Creative Documentary Center

Peloponnisos International Doc Film Festival and Athens Palestine Film Festival invite you to a month of Palestinian documentary films.

This April we pay tribute to Palestine and its artists as a sign of support and solidarity to Palestinian people.

The Greek artists call for an end to the genocide, the killing of civilians and the ongoing humanitarian crisis that people in Gaza experience.

Through four films we will follow the difficulties and injustices still experienced by the Palestinians, and we ask for an end to the war crimes and to break the prevailing silence.

The screenings will take place on Mondays, 8, 12, 22 and 29 of April at the Creative Documentary Center of Kalamata, at 20:30.

MONDAY 8 APRIL - Ghost Hunting, by Raed Andoni, (94’), 2017

istiyad_ashbah_ghost_hunting_still

In order to confront the ghosts that haunt him, Palestinian director Raed Andoni assembles an eclectic group of ex-prisoners to recreate the Al-Moskobiya, Israel’s main interrogation centre, where he was himself jailed at age 18. Day after day, these construction workers, a blacksmith, an architect, an assistant director give shape to their memories of how they survived with grit and a sense of humor. As the walls of the cells rise, the tongues and the emotions loosen.

MONDAY 15 APRIL - Little Palestine by Abdallah Al-Khatib, (89’), 2021

2500

The district of Yarmouk (Damascus, Syria) sheltered the biggest Palestinian refugee camp in the world from 1957 to 2018.
When the Syrian revolution broke out, the regime of Bashar Al-Assad saw Yarmouk as a refuge of rebels and resistance and set up a siege from 2013 on. Gradually deprived of food, medicine and electricity, Yarmouk was cut off from the rest of the world.

MONDAY 22 APRIL - ONE MORE JUMP by Emanuele Gerosa, (83’), 2019

Jehad and Abdallah, founders of the Gaza Parkour Team, brought up together in the Gaza Strip but their choices divided them for years. Today, more than ever, they need to find out if there is a way that can lead to freedom someone who, like them, was born in prison.

MONDAY 29 APRIL - The wanted 18 by Amer Shomali and Paul Cowan, (75’), 2014

It’s 1987 and the Israeli army is in hot pursuit of eighteen dairy cows in the town of Beit Sahour in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. The cows are declared a threat to Israel’s national security after a group of Palestinians begin producing milk for the town’s residents. These newly minted dairy farmers have to learn the most basic skills—even just how to milk the cows! But they are determined to be a model of self-reliance and
provide their community with alternatives to replace Israeli goods. The money gathered from the entrance fee will be given for the financial support of Palestinian artists.
