The Strafdivision "999"

In Nazi-occupied Greece, a hidden story unfolds: German and Austrian political prisoners, forced into Penal Battalion 999, defy fascism by deserting and joining the Greek Resistance. A powerful documentary revealing resistance from within the ranks of the enemy. Set in Nazi-occupied Greece during WWII, The Strafdivision 999 unveils the untold story of German and Austrian political prisoners forced into Wehrmacht's Penal Battalion 999. Deployed in harsh conditions and constant suspicion, many of them deserted and joined the Greek Resistance (ELAS), becoming active fighters against fascism. Through rare archival footage, firsthand testimonies, and historical insight, the documentary challenges the uniform image of the German army and highlights moral resistance from within.
