The Ancient Olive Tree

The documentary "The Ancient Olive Tree" tells the story of the oldest olive tree in the world, located in Vouves, Chania, Crete. Estimated to be 3,000-5,000 years old, the Vouves olive tree has been declared a Natural Monument. The film focuses on the value of ancient olive trees, emphasizing the need for their protection and respect for nature. It also presents the Olive Tree Museum of Vouves, which houses tools and artifacts related to olive cultivation, highlighting the long history of the olive tree and its connection to the local community. The narration mentions the visit of the Patriarch and his proclamation as an honorary citizen under the tree, as well as the decision of the Olympic Committee to use a wild olive branch from Vouves to crown the winners.
