MAJA NOVAKOVIĆ (1987, Srebrenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina) holds a Master’s in Art History and is working on a Ph.D. with a thesis “Poetics of heritage in the work of Sergei Parajanov“. She is a research assistant at the Mathematical Institute of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. She directed, wrote, and produced her first film THEN COMES THE EVENING, which premiered at Visions du Reel in 2019. The film qualified for an OSCARS® nomination by winning Best Short Film at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival. It was nominated for Cinema Eye Honors and entered the Doc NYC: Short List. The film was screened at the Metrograph Cinema in New York and was awarded more than 50 times and selected at more than 130 festivals such as Hot Docs, SFFilm, Sarajevo Film Festival, Jihlava IDFF, Camerimage, Busan ISFF, Aesthetica SFF, Uppsala SFF, Big Sky FF, DokuFest, etc. She is a Sarajevo Talents and IDFAcademy alumna. Her first feature, AT THE DOOR OF THE HOUSE WHO WILL COME KNOCKING (2024), premiered and won the Grand Prix in the International Competition at Sheffield DocFest.
