About the Program
The aim of the program is to create a meeting and coexistence space for film academy students from all over the world. Our goal is to promote short documentaries and encourage networking, as well as the exchange of knowledge and experiences through working in multicultural teams.
The program is designed for emerging and amateur filmmakers looking to enhance their expertise, as well as graduates of the sciences, humanities, and environmental studies (e.g., archaeologists, visual anthropologists, cultural managers). The goal is to develop filmmaking skills that enable participants to use cinema as a powerful medium for public engagement, reaching audiences in ways that traditional science communication often cannot.
The Award
This year's Camp introduces a €2,000 Cash Prize for the Best Documentary produced during the program. The prize is sponsored by the Mariolopoulos-Kanaginis Foundation for the Environmental Sciences, in collaboration with the Kalamata Creative Documentary Center, aiming to support creative documentaries linked to science, the environment, and contemporary social realities.
Workshops & Workflow
The workshops will take place over an intensive program led by acclaimed European filmmakers. Participants will have the opportunity to enhance their documentary filmmaking knowledge and skills through masterclasses, discussions, film screenings, and Q&A sessions. Throughout the workshop, attendees will meet a wide range of film professionals who will share their expertise in research, directing, and understanding documentary film as a tool for social change.
Working in small groups, participants will create short documentaries under the guidance of the program's tutors. The number of produced films will be determined by the total number of participants.
Location & Activities
The film camp and workshops will be held in the communities of Alagonia and Artemisia on Mount Taygetos (at an altitude of 800m), in specially equipped spaces, with participants accommodated in Alagonia. During the ten-day workshop, students will also visit areas of exceptional natural and cultural interest in Messinia and Laconia. The schedule will be enriched with multicultural programs, screenings, excursions, concerts, and artistic meetups.
Screenings & Networking
Upon completion of the workshop, the final films will be presented in an open-air screening at the central village square, in the presence of the residents and the local community, fostering a dialogue between the creators and the location. Furthermore, the documentaries will be featured in a special screening during the Peloponnese International Documentary Festival in November 2026, offering the films international visibility and professional networking opportunities.
